The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have acquired 6-2, 229-lb defenseman Luke Schenn from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for right wing James van Riemsdyk, according to general manager Paul Holmgren.
Schenn, 22 (11/2/1989), is entering his fifth NHL season. He was drafted fifth overall by the Maple Leafs in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and appeared in 310 games, posting 14 goals and 61 assists for 75 points along with 217 PIM. This past season, Schenn recorded two goals and 20 assists for 22 points in 79 games. He is the older brother of Flyers center Brayden Schenn.
Van Riemsdyk, 23 (5/4/1989) was selected second overall by the Flyers in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He appeared in 196 games for the Flyers over three seasons, scoring 47 goals and adding 52 assists for 99 points.
