FIVE THINGS: Flyers vs. Rangers

The Flyers are coming off a 3-2 overtime win over the Predators yesterday - they have earned points in the standings in five of their last seven games, going 3-2-2, and in 13 of their 23 games… The Flyers now lead the NHL in games past regulation (10) going 5-5 and overtime decisions (8) going 4-4… Five of their last seven games have gone past regulation play… The Rangers lead the Metropolitan Division with 34 points, which ranks second in the Eastern Conference and third overall in the NHL standings… After going 13 consecutive games in which they picked up at least a point, going 11-0-2, including nine straight wins from Oct. 25 to Nov. 15, the Rangers have dropped three of their last five games and two consecutive games entering tonight… At home, the Rangers have earned at least one point in 10 of their last 11 home games (9-1-1) and in 11 of 13 home games (10-2-1).
The Flyers and Rangers face off for the second of five meetings this year and first of two meetings at MSG… The Flyers won the first meeting on home ice, taking a 3-2 shootout win on Oct. 24 in which the teams combined for 87 shots on net (PHI: 48, NYR: 39)… Despite having won two straight games over the Rangers, the Flyers are trying to snap a 10-game winless skid on the road at MSG against the Blueshirts where they have been outscored, 38-11, since their last victory at MSG on Feb. 20, 2011… Claude Giroux has 25 assists and 31 points in 37 games against the Rangers, while Rick Nash has seven goals and 11 points in 13 regular season games against the Flyers since he became a Ranger in 2012-13… This is the 282nd all-time meeting against the Rangers, the most for the Flyers against any other franchise… The Flyers own a 120-117-37-7 record for .505 win percentage.
Both teams enter the second of games on back-to-back days - The Rangers are a perfect 5-0-0 in the second game of back-to-backs this season and have outscored their opponent, 21-7, in those contests while the Flyers have played just three back-to-backs, going 1-2-0 in the second game, but dropping their last two in that scenario… Flyers captain Claude Giroux has points in three straight games, posting two goals and four assists for six points in that span… Giroux has 14 of his 19 points on the season in the month of November… Jake Voracek has four assists in his last three games and now leads the team in assists (12)… Since Oct. 30, the line of Rick Nash, Derick Brassard and Mats Zuccarello have combined for 37 points (16g-21a) in 11 games… The Rangers lead the NHL in goals against per game (2.00) with Henrik Lundqvist posting a 12-5-2 record with a 2.05 GAA and .936 save percentage, while backup Antti Raanta is 4-0-0 with a 1.20 GAA and .955 save percentage.
The 22-year-old rookie has points in five of seven games since being recalled from the Phantoms on Nov. 14 and is coming off scoring the game-winning-goal in overtime to lead the Flyers to a 3-2 win over the Predators yesterday… It was his second game-winner in OT to become the first Flyers rookie to score more than one overtime winners in one season… He is one of five players in the NHL to have two OT goals this season… Gostisbehere leads all rookie defensemen in power-play goals (3) and overtime goals (2), while ranking fourth among all rookie d-men in points (5) in just seven games played… He also leads rookie d-men in power-play time-on-ice at 3:27, which also leads all Flyers players… This is his first career game against the Rangers. Zuccarello leads the Rangers in both goals (10) and points (21), while being tied for the team lead in assists (11)… Only four of his 21 points have come on the power-play… His scoring also comes in bunches, posting six multiple point games so far this year… He has gone scoreless in his last three games, which is the most he has gone scoreless all season… He is the all-time leader in games played (244), goals (55), assists (108) and points (163) by a Norwegian-born player in NHL history… Against the Flyers, Zuccarello has three goals and six points in 11 career games.
