FIVE THINGS: Flyers vs. New York Rangers

This is the eighth straight season the Flyers have hosted a game on Black Friday, but first time they will be featured nationally on NBC’s Thanksgiving Showdown… In the annual game, the Flyers have nine out of a possible 14 points, posting a record of 3-1-3 in the previous seven seasons… Last season they posted a 2-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets… This is the first time since 2000 (Nov. 24, 2000 vs. PIT - L, 1-0) that the Flyers will face an opponent in their own division on Black Friday… Five out of the last seven Black Friday games have been decided by one goal, including three past regulation play… The Flyers have had a game the day after Thanksgiving each season since 1997, hosting 13 of the games, while being on the road just twice - they own an 8-3–1-3 record (one tie), in 15 outings.

Today is the second meeting of the season between the two teams and second in the last 10 days against the Rangers, who won the first meeting at MSG on Nov. 19, 2-0… Today’s game is also the first of a back-to-back, home-and-home series against the Rangers as the Flyers will travel to New York to face the Rangers at MSG on Saturday, also at 1 pm… It will mark the third meeting between the two teams in an 11-day span… The Flyers won both games against the Rangers on home ice last year and have won four of the last five games against the Rangers at the Wells Fargo Center… Overall, this is the 278th all-time meeting with the Rangers, which is the most they have played against any other team in the NHL… The Flyers own an 118-115-37-7 since 1967-68… The Flyers have also played the most playoff games in their history against the Rangers (54).

The Flyers return home where they own six of their eight victories, going 6-3-2, while the Rangers have just two wins on the road, going 2-4-1… Seven of the Rangers nine wins on the year have come when they have scored the first goal, while the Flyers have had five of their eight wins when scoring first - the Flyers are also unbeaten in regulation when scoring first (5-0-1)… The Flyers have the NHL’s second-best power-play at home, going 13-for-39 (33.3%) - their 13 PPG is also the second-most of any team on home ice… Martin St. Louis averages over a point per-game against the Flyers in his career and nearly an assist per-game posting 44 helpers and 59 points in 47 games… Claude Giroux has points in three of his last four games, recording two goals and three assists for five points… He is sixth in the NHL’s scoring race with 26 points and is third in the NHL with 19 assists… He also leads the NHL in shots (97 - tied with Ovechkin), face-offs taken (558) & face-offs won (314), while continuing to lead all NHL forwards in ice-time per-game, averaging nearly 22 minutes (21:58).

Voracek will put his 11-game home point streak on the line today - he has recorded 13 assists and 18 points in that 11-game span this season… His streak also dates back to last season, including three playoff games and the final two regular season games, bringing his streak to 16 straight games on home-ice… Voracek has recorded a point in every Flyers game in which the team has not been shut out, finding the scoresheet in 18 of 21 games so far… He ranks second overall (PIT: Crosby, 31) in the NHL with 30 points and is tied for the NHL lead (with Crosby) with 22 assists… Voracek has eight goals and 14 points in 19 career games against the Rangers.

The Rangers sniper has goals in three straight games coming into today’s contest and has recorded at least a point in six of his last seven games… He leads the Rangers in scoring with 23 points, which is tied for 10th in the NHL, and 15 goals, which is tied for second in the NHL… The 30-year-old forward recently appeared in his 800th NHL game and currently has 351 goals and 300 assists for 651 points through 804 contests… He scored one of the two Rangers goals in their 2-0 win against the Flyers earlier on the year and averages nearly a point per-game against the Flyers in his career with 15 points (8g-7a) in 16 career outings.
