FIVE THINGS: Flyers vs. Flames

The Flyers will play their fourth of a five-game road trip and fourth road game in the last seven days tonight when they visit the Flames… The Flyers will also look to avoid their sixth straight loss and fourth straight loss on the road… The Flyers are 4-1-0 when scoring the first goal, but are winless (0-5-2) when allowing the first goal… The Flyers are tied for second in the NHL in shots per-game (32.1), while leading the NHL in most shots allowed this season (34.7).. The Flyers defense has now recorded a point in seven consecutive games, posting nine assists and 12 points in that span, and overall has recorded a point in 10 of 12 games on the year with four goals and 11 assists for 15 points… Mark Streit and Luke Schenn are the only Flyers defensemen with a goal this season and more than one point thus far.
The Flames went 45-30-7 for 95 points last season, which was an 18-point improvement from the previous season, and made it to the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time since 2009… This year’s team comes into tonight having dropped five of their last six games and all three of their wins this season have come by one goal, two of which have come in overtime… The Flames are one of two teams in the Western Conference that have just one win on home ice (Arizona)… The Flames have given up the most goals-against this year (55) and are ranked 30th in the NHL with 4.23 goals-against per-game… Rookie Sam Bennett, the Flames fourth overall pick in 2014, has a four-game point streak in which he has six points (2g-4a) in that span.
Last year’s loss marked the first time the Flyers were beaten by the Flames in Calgary since the 2000-01 season - The Flyers have won nine of the last 11 meetings in Calgary, going 9-2-0, since the start of the 1995-96 season… Last season, the Flames swept the season series, repaying the Flyers, who swept the season series in 2013-14, which was the first time the two teams played twice in one season since 1995-96… Overall, the Flyers have a 57–41-12-3 record against the Flames franchise… Jakub Voracek has 13 points (4g-9a) in 17 games against the Flames, while Brayden Schenn has four points (2g-2a) in six games against the Flames… Sean Monihan has three goals in four games against the Flyers, while Michael Frolik has 14 points in 15 career games against the Flyers.
Laughton is coming off a strong performance in Edmonton in which he had a goal and five shots on net in the loss to the Oilers… The five shots on net tied his season high… Laughton also has four of his seven points in the last seven games for the Flyers… All three of Laughton’s assists have been primary assists and all five of his points have come at even strength this year… Overall, his five points are tied for fifth on the team, just two points behind team leader Mark Streit… Laughton will be playing in his first career game against the Flames tonight. One of three finalists for the Calder Trophy last season, Gaudreau is off to another good start to his sophomore campaign - he leads the team in both assists (11) and points (13) through 13 games… He has points in three of his last four games and is averaging 19:33 of time-on-ice so far this year, which is nearly two full minutes than his average last year as a rookie (17:43)… In only two games against the Flyers, the South Jersey native has four points with a goal and three assists from his rookie season.
