FIVE THINGS: Flyers vs. Devils

The Flyers have won three straight games and have outscored their opponent, 10-4, during that stretch, which has put them three points behind the final wild card position in the Eastern Conference, with the Devils one of the teams they are chasing at 28 points… The Flyers have won two straight on the road and will be looking for their third straight road win for the first time in nearly a calendar year with the last time coming on Dec. 20-23, 2014… They have also earned points in nine of their last 13 games, going 6-4-3 since Nov. 5… New Jersey currently owns a three-game winning streak over the Flyers and have outscored them 14-5 in the process… The Devils are looking to snap a three-game winless skid on home ice, going 0-2-1, as well as dropping four of their last five at the Prudential Center.
The Flyers penalty kill has been perfect in their last 21 times shorthanded over the span of eight games, including seven straight perfect games of going 20-for-20…  They have allowed the opposition just two power plays in each of the last four games… Wayne Simmonds has five points (3g-2a) in his last two games - the Flyers are a perfect 5-0-0 in games when Simmonds scores a goal… His linemate, Sean Couturier has goals in two straight games and four points (2g-2a) in the the last two contests - Couturier is looking for his first three-game goal-scoring streak since his rookie season (Jan. 8-17) when he had goals in five-straight games… Michael Del Zotto has points in three straight games with a goal and two assists.
This is the second of four meetings and first in New Jersey against the Devils, who took the first meeting by a score of 4-1 on Oct. 29… The Flyers enter the first of games on back-to-back nights, as they take on the Columbus Blue Jackets at home on Saturday - the Flyers are 1-3 in the first game… The Devils play the second of games on back-to-back nights after earning a 5-1 win in Carolina last night - they are 1-1-0 in second games when playing on consecutive dates… The Devils have the NHL’s best PK on home ice this year operating at 90 percent while allowing just four goals on 40 times shorthanded… Patrik Elias has points in three of his last four games, and three points (1g-2a) in five games since returning to the lineup from injury on Nov. 25 that caused him to miss 20 games… Claude Giroux has 28 career points (8g-20a) in 32 games against the Devils.
Nine games into his season, Gostisbehere leads all Flyers defensemen in goals and is tied for second in points (9)… He also has three goals on the power-play which is tied for the overall team lead and leads all rookie d-men in the NHL, while his two overtime goals lead all NHL defensemen… He has recorded at least a point in four of his last five games, including three goals in his last five outings… This is his first career game against the Devils. Henrique leads the Devils with 12 goals, which is also tied for eighth in the NHL, and is second on the team with 20 points through 25 games… He has recorded at least a point in five of his last six games, posting four goals and six points in that span… Henrique also leads all forwards on the team in average time-on-ice at 20:31, while leading the team in shorthanded goals (2) and tied for the lead with a plus-minus rating of +8… Against the Flyers, Henrique has nine goals and six assists for 15 points and a +15 rating in 18 career games.
