FIVE THINGS: Flyers vs. Boston Bruins

T he Flyers (39pts) have won two straight games in their four-game homestand and are within nine points of the Bruins (48pts) in the Eastern Conference wild card race… The Bruins come in having won two straight games and have earned at least a point in the standings in six straight, going 3-0-3… The Flyers have won four of their last six games at home, while the Bruins have dropped four of their last six road games, going 2-2-2… After going without a power-play goal in six straight games (Dec. 18-29), the Flyers have recorded at least a goal on the man advantage in four of their last five games, going 5-for-18 (27.7%)… The Bruins have gone a perfect 12-for-12 on the penalty kill in the last four games - they are the only team to have not allowed a shorthanded goal this season.

T he Flyers face the Bruins for the first time since opening night of the 2014-15 season, a span of 95 days (Oct. 8-Jan. 10), in which they dropped a 2-1 decision at Boston… This is also the only meeting of the year in Philadelphia between the Bruins and Flyers, who lost both games in Philly last season (0-1-1) and have dropped seven of their last nine games on home ice to the Bruins, going 2-5-2 dating back to the 2009-10 season… David Krejci averages a point-per-game against the Flyers in his career with 25 points (5g-20a) in 25 games… Defenseman Zdeno Chara has the most goals against the Flyers of any player on the Bruins roster with 13 in 56 career games, while Vincent Lecavalier has the most goals against the Bruins on the Flyers roster with 22 in 54 games .  

T oday is the fifth day-time start for the Flyers, who own a 2-2-0 record in that scenario, while the Bruins have had five this season, going 1-1-3 thus far… Flyers defenseman Nicklas Grossmann is out for three weeks with an upper-body injury he suffered last game… Nick Schultz ranks second among Flyers defensemen with 10 points, all of which are assists, and is tied for second on the team in plus-minus at +8 in his 40 games played… Mark Streit has recorded an assist in five of his last six games, and eight of his last 10 contests, and has 14 helpers in his last 17 games dating back to Dec. 3… David Krejci has points in two straight games and five of his last six contests recording a goal and five assists in that stretch .

Voracek continues to lead the NHL in scoring with 49 points through the Flyers halfway point of the season - He is the first Flyer to be leading the league in points this late in a season since Eric Lindros in 1998-99, 47 games into the season… He is tied for the team lead in goals (16) and leads the team in plus-minus at +12… Voracek has two goals and three points in his last five games and has not had a multi-point game in his last seven contests, which is his longest stretch of the season, surpassing a five-game stretch from Dec. 2-11… Against the Bruins, Voracek had an assist on opening night and has nine points (3g-6a) in 14 career games.

The reigning Vezina Trophy winner has an all-time record of 7-1-1 against the Flyers with a 1.90 goals-against average and .924 save percentage… He has 16 of the Bruins’ 21 victories this season, posting a record of 16-10-6 with a 2.52 GAA and .913 sv pct… Rask is unbeaten in regulation in his last five starts, going 2-0-3 with a 2.20 GAA and .928 save percentage in that stretch - Rask has also gone 4-0-3 in his last seven decisions, not including allowing three goals on 15 shots on Dec. 27 at Columbus… Rask currently has the best career GAA (2.17) and sv pct. (.926) of all active goaltenders with over 50 career games played.
