FIVE THINGS: Flyers vs. Blackhawks

by Staff Writer / Philadelphia Flyers
A win of any kind tonight and the Flyers can leap over the Red Wings and move into the second wild card position with 80 points… It would be the first time since Oct. 28 that the Flyers have been in a playoff position with a 4-2-2 record… The Flyers are unbeaten in regulation in their last five games (4-0-1), and have earned points in 11 of their last 13 games, going 9-2-2 since a 6-3 win at New Jersey on Feb. 16… The Blackhawks are on a three-game winless skid for just the third time all season - they have not lost four straight games of any kind this season… Chicago owns the best home record in the Western Conference at 24-9-2, which is second-best in the NHL only to Washington, who has a 27-6-2 mark.
The Flyers come into tonight’s game on a scoring spree - posting 21 goals in their last five games for an average of 4.2 goals-per-game… The Flyers defense has recorded a goal in two straight games and four of their last five contests, and has posted 24 points (6g-18a) in the last eight games… The Flyers are ranked 21st in the NHL with 176 goals and average 2.59 goals per-game… The Blackhawks went scoreless in their last game, suffering a 5-0 shutout loss to LA on Monday, and have just four goals in their last three games… They average 2.77 goals-per-game and are tied for 6th in the NHL with 194 goals… Chicago has won two straight games at home over the Flyers outscoring them, 11-2.
Michael Raffl has four goals in his last five games, while posting eight points (4g-4a) in his last seven games… Wayne Simmonds has recorded a point in four of his last five games with five points (2g-3a)… Claude Giroux averages over a point per game with nine assists and 12 points in nine career games… Artemi Panarin leads all NHL rookies in the following categories: goals (25), assists (37), points (62) and game-winning goals (6) in 68 games - he went undrafted in the NHL… Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews is scoreless in two straight games, but prior to that had a five-game point streak with three goals and five points… Corey Crawford has never beaten the Flyers, going 0-3-0 with a 3.35 GAA, while backup goalie, Scott Darling has never faced the Flyers.
Schenn has points in four of his last five games, recording two goals and five points in that stretch… Schenn is second on the team with 23 goals and fourth on the team in scoring with 47 points despite ranking 13th on the team in average time-on-ice at 16:43 per-game… However, Schenn leads the Flyers in scoring since Jan. 1 with 32 points, which also ranks tied for seventh among all NHL players… His 23 goals are a new career-high and he is one point shy of breaking his career high in points for a season set just last year… Against the Blackhawks, Schenn has three assists in six career games. Kane is the NHL’s leading scorer… and by a wide margin… He leads all players with 89 points, which is 12 points more than the next closest player (Jamie Benn, 77)… He also ranks second in the NHL in goals (38) and assists (51), while personally he already has new career-highs in both goals and points having played 70 games thus far… Kane is currently on a three-game streak without a point, his longest of the season, and he has not gone four-straight games without a point since the end of the 2011-12 season (Mar. 31-Apr. 7)… The 1st overall pick in 2007 averages exactly a point-per-game in his NHL career over nine seasons with 646 points (243g-403a) in 646 games… Against the Flyers, Kane has seven points (3g-4a) in eight career games.
