FIVE THINGS: Flyers at Anaheim Ducks

T his is the second and final meeting of the season with the Ducks after the Flyers dropped a 4-3 shootout in Philly on Oct. 14… The Flyers dropped both games to the Ducks last season and have not fared well against Anaheim in the last five seasons, posting a 1-4-1 record… The Flyers have scored a power-play goal in three of their last four games and in five of their last seven games… The Flyers will be looking to avoid their ninth straight road loss for the first time in over 15 years when they dropped nine straight from Feb. 20 to Mar. 16, 1999, going 0-7-2… The Ducks have won four of their last six games and earned at least a point in the standings in 12 out of their last 15 games, going 7-3-5 with eight of those games going past regulation play, including six straight at one point .

R yan Getzlaf leads Anaheim in assists (15) and overall points (22), while linemate Corey Perry leads the team with 14 goals… Frederik Andersen leads the Ducks with an 11-4-4 record, posting a 2.35 GAA and .917 save percentage the season - He became the first goaltender in NHL history to win 26 of his first 31 decisions, going 26-5-0, with a win at Buffalo on Oct. 22 ,2014… Ducks forward Andrew Cogliano is the NHL's current Ironman leader, appearing in 565 straight games since his first NHL contest… The Ducks are unbeaten in regulation play in one-goal games this year, posting 11 wins, going 11-0-5… Anaheim is also unbeaten in regulation when scoring the first goal, going 11-0-4 .

T he Flyers also started last year’s California trip with a loss in the first game, but recovered to win the final two contests… The Flyers play their sixth set of back-to-backs tonight - they own a 1-4-0 record in the second game but have averaged over three goals per-game in the second contest (3.2) scoring a total of 16 goals… In every back-to-back scenario, except for the first set of the season, the Flyers have not had the same goaltender start both games… The Ducks have allowed 34 or more shots in each of their last four games and more than 30 shots in a game 11 times this season… The Ducks have killed 21 of their last 23 penalties dating back to Nov. 16 vs. Florida, and own the NHL’s seventh-best PK unit, operating at 84.7 percent… The Ducks have 11 regulation/overtime wins this season and have had a different player scoring the game winner in each of the 11 victories .

Giroux went scoreless in the Flyers 2-1 loss at San Jose - the Flyers captain has not gone scoreless in two straight games all season long, posting at least a point in 17 of 24 games… Giroux leads the team in power-play goals (6) and power-play points (13)… He is tied for second in the NHL in shots on goal (101) and has fired at least one shot on goal in every game this season… He continues to lead all forwards in the league in time-on-ice per-game (21:49)… Against the Ducks, he averages a point-per-game with eight points (2g-6a) in eight games against Anaheim.

Vatanen leads the Ducks defense and is third overall in the NHL among blue liners with 20 points (6g-14a) through 26 games… He leads all NHL defensemen in power-play points (12) and four of his six goals have come on the power-play which is tied for the NHL d-man lead… He has recorded a point in five of his last seven games for five assists and seven points in that span… Vatanen has logged over 20 minutes of ice-time in his last 16 games, nine of which he’s posted over 23 minutes of TOI… Taken 106th overall in the 2009 NHL Draft, Vatanen has played just two games against the Flyers, posting one assist.
