FIVE THINGS: Coyotes vs. Flyers

by Staff Writer / Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers face off against Arizona for the first time this season, making them the only NHL team the Flyers have yet to face in 2015-16… The Flyers own a 9—9-3 record against the West, but have only one win against a Pacific Division opponent this season, going 1-6-3, with their only win coming against Vancouver… The Coyotes meet their third straight Eastern Conference team, losing the previous three and posting an overall mark of 8-15-3 against the East with only two wins against the Metropolitan Division, going 2-8-2… This is the fourth day game in February for the Flyers, who are 3-2-3 in games that start in the afternoon… The Flyers have dropped four straight afternoon starts…  Six of the eight daytime starts have been decided by one goal with four going past regulation play, including three of the last four.
The Flyers are 3-1-1 in their last five overall games, and have earned points in the standings in five of their last six games at home, going 3-1-2… They have also recorded a goal on the power play in eight of their last nine home games, going (9-for-33) at 27.2 percent, while nine of their last 20 goals at home have come on the man advantage… Arizona comes into today’s game hoping to snap a four-game losing skid in which they have been outscored, 14-9… The Coyotes have also dropped six straight road games, going 0-6-0 and have been outscored, 22-10, with their last road win coming on Jan. 25 at Minnesota… The Coyotes have the 25th ranked penalty kill in the NHL at 77.9 percent, but on the road are tied for ninth in the league on the PK at 82.2 percent.
Jakub Voracek will miss his first game in nearly four years (since Mar. 11, 2012) with a lower-body injury - his iron-man streak ends at 286 games which is tied for third overall in Flyers history with Jeff Carter… Should Flyers captain Claude Giroux play in today’s game, he needs one point to reach 500 points in the NHL… Mikkel Boedker averages over a point per-game against the Flyers in his career, with eight points (3g-5a) in seven games, while Connor Murphy (son of Flyers assistant coach, Gord Murphy) has three points (1g-2a) in three games against the Flyers… Defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson leads the Coyotes in scoring with 47 points (18g-29a) and is one of four d-men in the NHL to lead his team in scoring (MTL: Subban, NSH: Josi, OTT: Karlsson).
Read enters tonight with three-game point streak posting a goal and two assists - a point tonight would give him a season-high four-game point streak… He is tied for fifth on the team with 10 goals and has 21 points in 57 games… Read has reached the 10-goal mark for the fourth time in his five-year NHL career… Since his rookie season in 2011-12, Read leads the Flyers in shorthanded goals (6) and is second in shorthanded points (8), only to Sean Couturier (10)… Read also averages a point per-game with two goals and three assists for five points in five career meetings against the Coyotes. The 39-year-old is in his 20th season in the NHL and continues to play a huge role on the Coyotes… He leads the team in overall goals (23) and ranks fourth on the team with 37 points in 52 games… He has points in two straight games with a goal and two assists… In his career, Doan is nine goals shy of 400 in the NHL and has 935 points in 1,446 games played… He has been the Coyotes captain for 12 consecutive seasons, making him the longest-tenured captain of any current team in the NHL… Against the Flyers, Doan has 13 points (5g-8a) in 25 games.
