The Flyers close out the month of March looking for their ninth victory, owning an 8-3-2 record, which would be the first time in two years (March of 2014) they would have nine wins in a single month… The Flyers have averaged three goals per-game, recording 39 goals in 13 games in March… They have also allowed just two goals while shorthanded, killing off 26 of 28 penalties at 92.8 percent… The Flyers have a 20-10-7 record at home and have now earned a point in nine of their last 11 home games (8-2-1)… Sean Couturier has a five-game point streak (1g-4a) and is tied for the team lead in the month of March with 11 points (1g-10a) in 13 games, along with Brayden Schenn, who also has 11 points (3g-8a).
The Capitals have sealed the NHL’s Presidents Trophy for the second time in franchise history and second time in the last seven seasons… They have won five of their last seven games and are the only team in the NHL that has not lost two consecutive games in regulation - they are 15-0-1 following a regulation loss… They lead the NHL in wins (54) and points (113), and a win tonight would mark the most wins in franchise history… The Capitals are just as dominant on the road, posting a 25-9-3 road mark, which ranks first in the NHL in point percentage (.716) and second in the NHL in road wins (25)… They also own a 20-5-2 record against the Metropolitan Division… The Caps ranks second among all NHL teams (1st: Dallas) in goals scored (232) and goals per-game (3.09).
This is the fourth and final meeting of the year against the Caps, with the Flyers owning a 1-2-0 record… The Caps have scored seven of their 11 goals in the second period in the season series… Evgeny Kuznetsov leads all players in the series with four points, all of them assists, while Braden Holtby has started all three games against the Flyers, posting a 2.66 GAA and .908 save percentage… Shayne Gostisbehere has three points, all assists, in the two games of the season series, while seven different Flyers have made up the eight total goals scored in the previous three games… Five of the last seven meetings between the two teams have been decided by one goal… Despite losing the last meeting in Philadelphia, the Flyers have won four of their last five games and seven of the last nine contests on home ice.
The Flyers captain added two points last game, including the game-winning goal in overtime to defeat the Jets on Monday… Giroux now has goals in four of his last five games, two of which have been game-winners… He leads the Flyers with 42 assists and 64 points in 72 games this season, and ranks fourth among all NHL forwards in average ice-time per-game at 20:37… Giroux averages over a point per-game with 15 goals and 30 points in 28 career meetings against the Caps, including a goal and two assists in three games of the season series. Oshie is one of the Caps hottest players, recording five goals and six points in his last seven games played - he missed two games due to an illness, which were his first two games missed of the season… He ranks second on the Caps (to Ovechkin) with 24 goals, which is a new career high… Nearly half of his goals have come on the power play (11), and he is fifth on the team with 46 points in 73 games… Against the Flyers, Oshie has a goal and an assist in the season series this year and owns six points (3g-3a) in 11 games.
