The Flyers return home to the Wells Fargo Center where they will play four of their next five games… They are 3-2-1 on home ice with two of their three wins coming by way of a shutout… The Flyers have earned a point in the standings in their last two games, coming into tonight after a 3-0 win at Winnipeg that snapped a six-game winless skid… Brayden Schenn leads the Flyers in scoring at home with five of his seven points (3g-2a) coming on home ice… His brother, Luke Schenn, is tied for second with three points (1g-2a) in just two games at home… Four of the Flyers six home games have been decided by one goal and two of the last three have gone past regulation.
The Avalanche begin a seven-game, 15-day road trip tonight in Philadelphia - it ties for the longest road trip in Avalanche history… Colorado also enters tonight having lost four of their last five games and have a 2-7-1 record in their last 10 games… The Avs lead all NHL teams with 256 blocked shots on the year, which included a game in which they blocked a total of 41 shots, a 3-0 win on Oct. 16 at Anaheim, which set a franchise record… Jarome Iginla is tied for the team lead in goals (6) and is tied for second in points (11) in 14 games… Iginla is in his 19th NHL season and is five goals away from reaching 600 in his NHL career and his 595 goals are the second most among active players (Jagr)… Former No. 1 overall pick (2006), D Erik Johnson, is one point away from 200 in his NHL career.
This is the first of two meetings against Colorado… The last three meetings against the Avalanche have been decided by one goal, including the two teams splitting the season series last year with a pair of 4-3 decisions with each team winning on home ice… The Flyers have won their last four games at home against Colorado, with their last loss coming on Jan. 14, 2006… All five of the Flyers victories this season have come when they have scored the first goal - they are 5-1-0 in that scenario… Sam Gagner has the most goals (15) and points (39) against the Colorado Avalanche than any other team in his career… The Avalanche have scored over 30 percent of their goals this season on the power play (11 of 36) but have scored just one goal on the power play on the road.
The captain has been heating up - he recorded two assists in the Flyers win over Winnipeg and has points in two straight, as well as three of four games in November with four assists… He leads the Flyers in overall points (9) as well as points on the power play (4)… The Flyers are 3-2-2 in games in which Giroux records a point and 2-1-0 when he scores a goal… Against the Avs, Giroux averages nearly a goal per-game with five goals and six points in six career contests… Three of his five goals and four of his six career points all came in last year’s season series. The 2014 Rookie of the Year had a sophomore slump last season after going from 24 goals and 63 points in his rookie season to 14 goals and 38 points last year… This year he leads the Avs so far with nine assists and 15 points in 14 games… Three of his six goals have been game-winning-goals, which is tied for the NHL lead… He is currently riding a three game point streak in which he has two goals and three assists for five points, and has also recorded a point in five of his last six contests… Against the Flyers, MacKinnon has just one goal in four meetings.
