by Staff Writer / Philadelphia Flyers

The Battle of the Giants takes over the Wachovia Center on Saturday, June 3rd. Fifty world Sumo champions from all over the world will compete in a round robin competition consisting of 31 intense matches. Fans will be treated to a night of thrilling Sumo bouts driven by the sounds of traditional Taiko drum music, and a theatrical Cirque de Soleil style spectacular representing the mythological origins of Sumo.

Flyers television color commentator Steve Coates recently tried his luck at Sumo. To see the results, click here.

Sumo offers the ground shaking excitement of a true sporting competition combined with the pulse pounding drama of a true theatrical experience.

World Sumo Challenge - Battle Of The Giants is sanctioned by the International Sumo Federation, the Japanese-based world governing body for Sumo. It will be contested under traditional Japanese Sumo rules and will take place in an official-sized DOYHO complete with a replica of a Japanese Shinto Temple hanging overhead. The matches will be judged by licenses officials from the International World Of Sumo.
