CALGARY, AB -- The Calgary Flames desperately needed to rebound from a 6-0 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday night. And rebound they did with a huge 7-4 victory over the Dallas Stars Friday night.
Alex Tanguay opened the scoring early for the Flames when Brendan Morrison sent a perfect pass onto Tanguay's stick in front of Stars goaltender Andrew Raycroft. Tanguay snapped home his 12th goal of the season.
Captain Brenden Morrow answered back for the Stars at 8:34 of the first period. Then, less than four minutes later ,Brad Richards charged the net and released a quick snap shot that flew over Henrik Karlsson's shoulder giving the Stars a 2-1 lead.
Olli Jokinen fought back for the Flames at 15:10 to tie the game 2-2. Jokinen had Niklas Hagman on a two-on-one opportunity racing across the blueline. Instead of passing, Jokinen fired a snapshot that zipped past Raycroft.
The floodgates opened midway through the second period with the Flames scoring three unanswered goals. Mikael Backlund got the first on a perfect deflection from Tim Jackman's shot from a tough angle to give the Flames a 3-2 lead. David Moss added to the tally at 17:10 followed by a pretty one from Brendan Morrison just 56 seconds later.
The Stars gave it one last push early in the third period as James Neal scored just 31 seconds in. The Flames were determined not to allow the Stars to take the momentum. Iginla picked up his 20th goal of the season at 4:20 of the final frame to take that momentum away from Dallas.
Moss added the seventh tally at 12:12 of the final frame on the power play.
The Flames won't have much time to rest as they travel to Vancouver to face teh Canucks Saturday night.
At 17:10 of the second period, David Moss picked up the Flames fourth goal of the night giving his team a two goal lead. With traffic in front of Raycroft, Moss, Niklas Hagman and Cory Sarich pushed and shoved until the puck found it's way to the back of the net.
Fifty-six seconds later, already sitting on a two goal lead, Brendan Morrison took a nice pass from Alex Tanguay and snapped one past Raycroft. The two goals in under a minute took every last bit of energy the Stars may have had left.
Olli Jokinen and Niklas Hagman converted on a two-on-one at 15:10 of the first period.
Jokinen decided against passing the puck and fired a snap shot over Andrew Raycroft's shoulder. Jokinen's ninth goal of the year tied the game 2-2 at 15:10 of the first period.
David Moss was the showstopper tonight. He was all over the ice, grinding and skating hard every shift. He picked up his ninth and 10th goals of the season earning himself his second two goal game this season.
He added an assist on Olli Jokinen's goal that tied the game at two a piece. Moss took five shots on net, dished out two hits and was a +1 in 13:27 of ice time.
