Poker event raises $450,000 for Flames Foundation for Life

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Flames Ambassadors’ and Calgary Flames Hockey Club are happy to announce the 3rd annual Texas Hold’Em Tournament held Thursday, January 31st, raised more than $450,000 for the Flames Foundation for Life. 

 
Calgary Flames players, coaches and alumni competed against 350 other poker players who bought-in at $650 a-piece to play against their hockey heroes and the chance to win more than $40,000 in prizes.

The overall Winner of the tournament was Ernest Wyder a valued Season ticket holder with the Calgary Flames. Second place went to Brian Thiessen of Blake Cassels Graydon LLP. Wayne Bernier of Weatherford Drilling Services ended the night in third place and Calgary Flames defenseman, Cory Sarich finished 4th.
 
Cory generously donated his winnings, of $2,500 back to the Flames Foundation for Life. All of our top 10 finalists generously donated significant portions of their winnings back to the Flames Foundation for Life totaling $10,000.
 
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Rotary / Flames House. The Flames Foundation for Life and the Rotary Club teamed up to donate $2.5 Million to help build Alberta’s first hospice and respite care facility for children. Rotary / Flames House will help hundreds of families needing specialized help for their very sick and terminally ill children.
 
“The Ambassadors and this event illustrate the community spirit of Calgary,” says Rollie Cyr, VP of Sales and Ticketing with the Calgary Flames. “This event alone has raised over $900,000 in its three years for numerous wonderful causes.’
