News Release: Flames acquire Staios

Calgary, AB – Calgary Flames General Manager Darryl Sutter announced today the acquisition of defenseman Steve Staios from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Aaron Johnson and Calgary’s 3rd round pick in the 2010 or 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Staios, a native of Hamilton, Ontario has played in 879 career games over 15 NHL seasons. He has accumulated 52 goals, 147 assists for 199 points and 1229 penalty minutes. Included in his 33 career playoff games was a 24 game run all the way to game seven of the 2006 Stanley Cup finals with the Edmonton Oilers. Staios has been an alternate captain with the Edmonton Oilers this season.

DRAFTED:    St. Louis – 1st round (27th overall) in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft
HOW ACQUIRED: From Edmonton in exchange for Aaron Johnson and Calgary’s 3rd round pick in 2010 or 2011

The Flames also sent forward Dustin Boyd to the Nashville Predators in exchange for Nashville’s 4th round pick in 2010. Boyd played 192 games for the Flames over four seasons.
