Morning Skate Report: Flames vs. Avs

by Torie Peterson / Calgary Flames

Tim Jackman, Lance Bouma, Blair Jones and Chris Butler all participated in the morning skate and it looks like Jackman will suit up tonight against the Avs.

"I feel good," the gritty forward said after practice. "It's the coach's decision right now but I'm ready to go."

Head coach Brent Sutter is optimistic the 30 year-old will be able to dress tonight.

"I wanted to see how he went through his skate this morning. He felt good yesterday and I just wanted to see what he's like again today. He'll let me know here later in the day.

"I think there is a decent chance he will be in our lineup."

Jackman was placed on a line with Guillaume Desbiens and Roman Horak this morning so it appears Greg Nemisz is the odd man out.

The Minot, ND native has played in 67 games this season, scoring one goal and recording seven points.

The Avs play a very up-tempo, end-to-end type of game so the best way to get them on their heels is to force them into a more physical, grinding game that makes Colorado fight for space on the ice.

"I don't think any team we want to trade chances with," Lee Stempniak said. "I think we have the speed to do things but at the same time, you don't want to be trading chances on the rush.

"We have to be physical and tough on their skill guys and slow them down."

Gabriel Landeskog, who will likely be playing on the Avs top line tonight, is one player the Flames will need to key in on.

The rookie has picked up steam as the season has progressed and is now the Calder favourite. He has potted 21 goals and 47 points through 74 games with Colorado this year and enters tonight's divisional clash with four points in his last five outings.

Scott Hannan will play in his 900th NHL game tonight. He is 3 points away from hitting 200.

Alex Tanguay needs 4 assists for 500.

Olli Jokinen needs 10 goals for 300. He needs 10 assists for 400.

Mark Giordano needs 5 assists for 100.
