Mason McDonald has been named the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Third Star of the Month for March.
The goaltender backstopped the Charlottetown Islanders to four wins this month, maintaining a GAA of 2.23 and a .945 save percentage while facing no less than 36 shots in those outings. He made 40+ saves in two of those games, including a 45-save performance against Saint John on Mar. 11.
McDonald finished up the regular season with a 21-15-3 record, a 3.33 GAA, and a .902 save percentage. He posted three shutouts in the 2015-16 campaign, bringing his career total to five.
In addition to playing for the Islanders, McDonald represented Canada at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship in Finland. He dressed for two games, posting a 2.52 GAA and a .861 save percentage.
The Flames drafted McDonald in the second round of the 2014 NHL Draft. He signed an entry-level deal with the team on Jul. 2, 2015.
