McDonald named CHL's Goaltender of the Week

by Torie Peterson / Calgary Flames

Mason McDonald's terrific play last week has earned him a Goaltender of the Week nod from the Canadian Hockey League (CHL).

His GAA in the pair of games was 1.00 and his save percentage sat at .971 last week. McDonald was also named the QMJHL's Second Star Of The Week and's Prospect of the Week honours.

McDonald was the first star in the Islanders 2-0 win over Sherbrooke last Friday, stopping all 31 shots he faced.

The 18-year-old followed that up with a clutch performance against the Quebec Remparts on Sunday.

He stopped all 14 shots he faced in the third stanza and his team was able to get the go-ahead goal mid-way through the frame, giving them a 3-2 win over the Remparts. In total, he made 36 saves on 38 shots.

McDonald has now gone five consecutive games without a regulation loss.

The Flames selected the netminder in the second round (34th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft.
