Most expected Miikka Kiprusoff to retire this offseason. The Scotiabank Saddledome crowd honored him with a standing ovation after Calgary's final home game of the 2013 season, and the Flames' all-time wins leader had been hinting that this past season would be his last.
On Monday, the Flames made Kipper's retirement official. Many of those who knew Miikka -- and more who didn't -- took to Twitter to remember the longtime backbone of the Calgary organization.

Then it was the AHL's turn to get in on the action. The League tweeted a photo of Kiprusoff at the 2011 AHL All-Star Game. Kiprusoff played in one NHL All-Star Game, in 2007 in Dallas.
Then it was time for the fans to get in on the action. Twitter praise ranged from Flames die-hards to casual NHL fans, evidence of his impact on the League and its followers over a dominant decade in Calgary.
With the news of Kiprusoff's departure from Calgary, the Flames' official account asked fans to recall their favorite Miikka moments.
Here's what the fans had to say. Not surprisingly, there were more than a few references to the scorpion save, Kiprusoff's signature move in which he kicks his legs behind him to save a shot heading for the net over his sprawled body.
