CALGARY, AB -- Failing to record a point against the San Jose Sharks, Mike Cammalleri saw his three-game goal and seven-game point-scoring streak snapped on Monday.
He still managed to find a way to lift the Flames to victory.
Cammalleri scored in the third round of the shootout and Karri Ramo stopped James Sheppard to lift the Flames to a 2-1 victory against the Sharks at Scotiabank Saddledome.
After the first four shooters all failed to score, Cammalleri skated in on Alex Stalock and hesitated before putting a shot over the glove of the Sharks goaltender to pull Calgary ahead. Ramo then stopped Sheppard to preserve the victory, the Flames’ 10th win in 13 games on home ice.
Though it was Cammalleri who sealed the win, it was Sheppard who opened the scoring with just 1:51 remaining in the first period, swatting a shot by Ramo to put the Sharks up 1-0.
That lead held until the 18-minute mark of the second period when Joe Colborne took a seam pass from Tyler Wotherspoon and lifted a shot over Stalock and under the bar to tie the game 1-1.
A scoreless third period forced overtime, subsequent shootout and Cammalleri’s heroics.
GOAL OF THE GAME
Taking a backdoor pass through a seam from Wotherspoon, Colborne corralled and fired a shot up under the bar to tie the game 1-1 with just two minutes remaining in the second period.
SAVE OF THE GAME
With the Sharks pressing on a power play near the midway mark of the first period, Ramo shot out his right pad to make a sparkling toe save on Joe Pavelski’s one-timer from the slot.
Cammalleri’s shootout winner gave the Flames their fifth win in the past seventh game.
STAT OF THE GAME
With the win, the Flames evened their record on home ice to .500 at 17-17-3.
TJ Galiardi and Ben Hanowski were scratched against the Sharks. Markus Granlund (upper body), Dennis Wideman (upper body) and David Jones (upper body) all missed the game due to injury.
The Flames continue a three-game stand at Scotiabank Saddledome when they host the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday (8 p.m. MST, TSN, Sportsnet 960 The FAN).
