CALGARY, AB -- TJ Brodie and Canada have taken over first place at the 2013 IIHF World Championships with a 4-1 win over Belarus on Friday.
Canada now has 13 points while Switzerland has 11 with a game in hand.
Brodie logged 12:58 of ice time in the victory and was a plus-one. Andrew Ladd, Claude Giroux, Steven Stamkos and Ryan O'Reilly scored for Canada while Belarus' lone tally came from Alexei Yefimenko.
Joni Ortio did not play for Finland on Friday in their game against the Russians. The Finns edged Russia 3-2.
Down 2-1 to Slovenia in the first, Jiri Hudler scored the equalizer for the Czech Republic and they didn't look back. They picked up a 4-2 win on Friday with Hudler putting three shots on net and logging 16:14 of ice.
On Saturday, Chris Butler and the USA take on Russia, Reto Berra and Switzerland face Denmark and Finland squares off against Austria.
