CALGARY, AB -- Calgary Flames prospect Brandon Hickey and the Boston University Terriers are Hockey East's 2014-15 champions thanks their 5-3 win over UMass Lowell on Saturday.
Hickey, who was the Flames third round pick in the 2014 NHL Draft, picked up one assist in the win and blocked a game-high 11 shots. The freshman defenceman now has five goals, 16 points and is a plus-17 in 37 games this season.
Matt Grzelcyk, Jack Eichel (2), Cason Hohmann, and Nikolas Olsson scored for Boston University while UMass Lowell received goals from Joe Gambardella, Michael Kapla, and Michael Louria.
Hickey and the Terriers earned the top seed in the Northeast Regional and will face Yale in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Friday afternoon. They enter the tournament with a 25-7-5 record.
The Terriers are one of three Hockey East teams in the field of 16. Boston College and Providence (Jon Gillies, Mark Jankowski, John Gilmour) were both slotted in the East Regional, which is hosted by Brown in Providence, Rhode Island.
