ABBOTSFORD, BC -- The Abbotsford Heat's offence has been firing on cylinders as of late and on Saturday, that firepower set a new franchise record.
In their 5-3 win over the Rockford Ice Hogs, this year's edition of the Heat became the highest scoring roster in franchise history by recording their 220th goal of the year.
Blair Jones' return to the lineup from injury played a big part in the victory as the forward scored one goal and three points against the Ice Hogs. Max Reinhart set a new career-high in the win with three assists to his name.
Joni Ortio made 23 saves on 26 shots in his second start in as many nights.
The Heat jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first period, with Corban Knight, Derek Smith and Jones beating Kent Simpson. The netminder surrendered three goals on four shots and was relieved by Jason LaBarbera early in the game.
Garrett Ross was able to get Rockford on the board in the second period but the Heat restored their three-goal lead early in the third frame. Sven Baertschi was able to jam home his 13th goal of the year just 1:25 into the period.
The Ice Hogs added two more goals in the final stanza, courtesy of Adam Clendening and Stephen Johns, but Brett Olson put the game away with an empty-netter at 19:29.
The Heat continue their four game home stand next week, when they take on the Oklahoma City Barons on Friday April 11th at 7:00 PM PT at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre. For tickets, please call 1-877-452-HEAT (4328) or visit us online at www.abbotsfordheat.com.
