Heat to battle Barons at the Saddledome

by Staff Writer / Calgary Flames

CALGARY, AB -- The Calgary Flames announced today that the Abbotsford Heat, the American Hockey League developmental affiliate of the Flames, will host a regular season game versus the Oklahoma City Barons, the AHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers, at the Scotiabank Saddledome, on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 7:00 p.m.

“We are happy with the opportunity to see, and share with our fans, the franchise players of tomorrow here in Calgary,” said Flames General Manager Jay Feaster. “The Heat are off to a strong start and this should prove and exciting contest.”

The game will provide fans the opportunity to see the Flames of the future as they face off against the Oilers’ top prospects - “Tomorrow’s Battle of Alberta…TODAY!” This will be the second year the two clubs will compete at the Scotiabank Saddledome as they played last season during the Heritage Classic weekend.

The AHL’s newly formed West division has three teams in Texas: Houston Aeros, Texas Stars and San Antonio Rampage; along with Abbotsford and Oklahoma City. So far during the 2011/12 season it has proven to be the toughest division in the entire American Hockey League as the Heat, Barons and Aeros have been battling for top spot in the Western Conference through the first quarter of the campaign. The Heat are led offensively by Greg Nemisz, Jon Rheault, Ben Walter and Krys Kolanos who are within a handful of points of each other.

“Our Heat team is thrilled with our early season success and proud of our affiliation with the Calgary Flames,” said Heat President Ryan Walter. “Playing against the Edmonton Oiler’s AHL team, in the Saddledome, in front of Flames fans and management will bring out the very best in our players, your future Flames.”

Tickets for the Heat - Barons game at the Scotiabank Saddledome start at just $15.00 and are available at all Ticketmaster locations. For tickets call 403.777.0000 or visit
