by Torie Peterson / Calgary Flames

HAMILTON, ON -- After two disappointing losses to the Utica Comets to start their three-game road swing, the Abbotsford Heat closed out the trip on a positive note with a 3-2 shootout victory over the Hamilton Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring in the second period when Joonas Nattinen slipped a shot past Flames prospect Joni Ortio but the Heat responded quickly. Abbotsford captain Dean Arsene netted his first in Heat silks to even up things up at the 9:56 mark of the middle frame. Corban Knight and Max Reinhart picked up the assists on the captain's tally.

Hamilton was able to grab the lead before the second period came to a close as Joel Chouinard scored his first of the year at 11:18.

The Heat were able to draw even once again in the third period. Ben Hanowski scored his 10th goal of the year before the 5:00 mark of the stanza, with assists going to Josh Jooris and Kane Lafranchise.

Joni Ortio, who made 32 saves in regulation and overtime, was perfect in the shootout, stopping four shooters. Knight and Markus Granlund scored in the shootout to pick up the 3-2 win for their club.

Granlund, who has 12 goals and 23 points to his name this season, was named the game's first star.

The Heat are back in action on Dec. 27 and Dec. 28, hosting the Edmonton Oilers AHL affiliate, the Oklahoma City Barons.
