ABBOTSFORD, BC -- The Abbotsford Heat snapped their eight-game losing skid on Friday night when they picked up a 3-1 victory over the Utica Comets (AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks).
With the win, the Heat remain in second place in the AHL's West Division with a 34-21-5-2 record and 75 points.
Netminder Olivier Roy picked up first star honours in the win, making 27 saves on the 28 shots he faced. Roy is now 5-5-1 on the season.
Abbotsford opened the scoring when Josh Jooris was able to convert on the power play at 12:25 of the first period. Max Reinhart and Kane Lafranchise picked up the helpers on Jooris' 10th goal of the year.
Brendan Connolly gave the Heat a 2-0 cushion before the first frame came to a close, notching his first AHL marker at 19:48. Corey Locke and Derek Smith collected the assists.
Alexandre Grenier pulled Utica within a goal mid-way through the third period but that was all of the offence the Comets could muster. Smith added an empty-netter to ice the victory for the Heat, with Roy assisting.
The Heat and Comets will play one last game in Abbotsford this season, on Saturday March 15th at 8:00 PM MST.
