CALGARY, AB -- Two Calgary Flames prospects came up big for Boston College on Saturday when they faced off against Denver in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Johnny Gaudreau netted three goals and six points in the Eagles 6-2 victory, one point shy of the NCAA Tournament single-game record of seven, which was set by Minnesota's John Mayasich in 1954.
Gaudreau's hat trick was the first of his collegiate career. He has played in 117 games with the Eagles over the last three seasons.
The junior now has 75 points on the season, the most from a collegiate player since the 2002-03 season when Colorado College’s Peter Sejna posted 82 and Ferris State’s Chris Kunitz had 79.
Bill Arnold chipped in with one goal and three points. He was a plus-five in the victory. The senior now has 13 goals and 39 points in 38 games this year, which places him third in team scoring.
Boston College either UMass-Lowell or Minnesota State on Sunday.
