Flames prospects named to World Juniors
by Staff Writer / Calgary FlamesCALGARY, AB – Calgary Flames prospects Mikael Backlund (Sweden) and Mitch Wahl (USA) have been selected to represent their respective countries at the upcoming 2009 IIHF World Junior Championships being held in Ottawa, ON from December 26 – January 5, 2009.
Backlund, a native of Vasteras, Sweden, was selected by the Calgary Flames in the 1st round (24th overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
Wahl, a native of Seal Beach, California, was selected by the Calgary Flames in the 2nd round (48th overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
Fellow Flames prospect Keith Aulie was also named to Canada’s National Junior 38 player selection camp roster, which will take place in Ottawa, ON and the Robert-Guertin Arena in Gatineau, QC from December 11-15, 2008.
Aulie, a native of Rouleau, SK, was selected by the Calgary Flames in the 4th round (116th overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
The 2009 IIHF World Junior Championships will be broadcast live starting on Boxing Day by TSN/RDS and on The FAN Radio Network (check local listings).
