Stevenson named AHL Player of the Month

Grant Stevenson

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that Quad City Flames right wing Grant Stevenson has been named the CCM/AHL Player of the Month for January.

Stevenson scored 12 goals and added eight assists for 20 points in 12 games last month.

Stevenson, who enters February riding an 11-game scoring streak, recorded two goals and an assist in a 4-3 loss at Peoria on Jan. 6, then picked up two assists and notched the decisive shootout goal in a 5-4 win over Grand Rapids on Jan. 9. He netted the tying goal in the third period of a 3-2 shootout win at Iowa on Jan. 12, then tied an AHL season high with a four-goal effort in a 4-2 victory over Rochester on Jan. 20. Stevenson added another game-winning goal in a 4-1 win at Rochester on Jan. 23 and closed out the month with the Flames’ only goal in a 2-1 loss at Toronto on Jan. 26. All told, Stevenson recorded a point on 20 of Quad City’s 32 goals for the month.

In recognition of his achievement, Stevenson will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Flames home game.

A fifth-year pro, Stevenson is in his first season with Quad City after four years in the San Jose Sharks organization. The 26-year-old native of Spruce Grove, Alta., is tied for second in the AHL with 24 goals and ranks fifth with 51 points while skating in all 47 games for the Flames. He has recorded 73 goals and 110 assists for 183 points in 271 career AHL games, and also has 10 goals and 12 assists in 47 career NHL contests, all with San Jose in 2005-06.

This edition of the Prospect Update includes stats and numbers up to Jan. 30, 2008.
