Ken King, Harvey the Hound and a guest Calgary Flames player along with the sponsors of the Calgary Educational Partnership Foundation’s Reading…Give it a Shot! program celebrate the achievements of the students selected as this years “Most Improved” readers at a pre-game event on Monday, April 6.
Reading…Give it a Shot! is a literacy program for grades 4, 5 and 6 students in the 6 School Districts in and around Calgary.
After every 100 minutes read, students are rewarded with a bookmark commemorating the Flames players. Counting minutes rather than books allows all students, regardless of their reading ability or speed, to participate.
This year, a total of 24 bookmarks were available for the students to earn.
One student from each grade level has been selected as this years “Most Improved” students in the areas of reading comprehension, spelling, grammar, sentence structure and enthusiasm for reading.
