CALGARY, AB -- On December 8th and 12th, the Flames Better Halves – the significant others of the Flames – will host two holiday fundraising initiatives through the Calgary Flames Foundation benefiting Ronald McDonald House, the Alberta Children’s Hospital and the Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre.
At the December 8th game, the Flames Better Halves will be hosting a toy drive in honour of Emerson Stajan that supports the Ronald McDonald House and the Alberta Children’s Hospital. Flames fans are asked to bring an unwrapped toy to Section 227 on the main concourse to help fill the “Magic Room” at the House and support children and their families who will be staying at the Alberta Children’s Hospital during the holiday season. For each fan who donates a toy or cash donation, their name will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win 1 of 4 Calgary Flames prizes.
“The Flames Better Halves are all so excited to host a toy drive this year, as part of our annual holiday initiative,” said Katie Stajan. “This toy drive is close to all of our hearts, as it will be in honour of our late son, Emerson Stajan. All of the toys, gift cards and cash donations will be going directly to the Ronald McDonald House and the Alberta Children's Hospital.
“For Matt and I, it is so special to be able to help others in our son's honour and keep Emerson's memory and legacy alive in all of our hearts. We hope to collect as many toys, gift cards and cash donations as possible in hopes of making a difference in the lives of families who are staying at the House and hospital this holiday season. Flames fans are the best fans in the world, and we are so appreciative of the support that they continue to show us every year, through every initiative. Thank you!”

On December 12th, the Flames Better Halves will once again be on the concourse at Section 227 encouraging fans to purchase raffle tickets for holiday wreaths custom-designed by players and their significant others, benefitting the Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre.
“Our goal with this holiday initiative is to team up with our devoted fans and community to raise awareness of the C.A.C. and offer hope, healing and help to children and youth who are victims of abuse,” said Casi Beardsworth, the better half of Kris Russell.
“Last year, we were overwhelmed by the generosity and support we received and we are even more excited to raffle off our unique wreaths and help make a difference in children’s lives. We appreciate all of the support last year and are excited to display our wreaths and meet fans on the concourse on December 12th.”
These one-of-a-kind wreaths, decorated with autographs and hockey pucks, can be won by purchasing raffle tickets from the Flames Better Halves. Tickets will be on sale for one for $20 or three for $50. The Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre offers hope, help and healing to youth and their families who have experienced child abuse.
