Flames assign Leland Irving to junior club

by Staff Writer / Calgary Flames

Calgary, AB - Calgary Flames General Manager Darryl Sutter announced Wednesday that Flames'' first round pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Leland Irving, has been assigned to his junior club, the Everett Silvertips.

Irving had a steady camp and said he learned plenty from the other goalies and goalie coach David Marcoux during his two weeks in Calgary.

"Every guy wants to see a pre-season game. But maybe next year," said Irving.

"I feel I have improved a lot over the last two weeks. There were little things that I could take out of all the goaltenders' games. I've worked a lot on my puck play and that is something I can improve on. I think I can help my junior team by using some of the things I have learned."
