CALGARY, AB -- The Calgary Flames announced today that longtime serving anthem singer Heather Liscano recently approached the team about leaving her role in order to focus more time on motherhood as well as songwriting and entrepreneurial opportunities.
“Today we fondly say goodbye to a very important member of our Flames family in Heather Liscano,” said Flames President & CEO Ken King. “We thank Heather for 16 years of leading us into competition each night with her amazing rendition of our anthem. We’re very proud of Heather and respect her decision to dedicate more time to family.”
Liscano started with the Calgary Flames in September of 1998 and has been the primary anthem singer for the team for the past 16 years. While she moves on to enjoy increased time with her family, Heather will make special guest appearances, when necessary this season.
“I am choosing to complete my role as full-time anthem singer for the Calgary Flames,” said Liscano. “I have happily grown up with this organization, discovering much about myself as a performer and as a person...and now there's a lot of growing and learning to be experienced in my roles as mother, singer/songwriter, and entrepreneur.”
"Being the anthem singer for the Calgary Flames over the past 16 years has absolutely been one of the most powerful journeys and adventures of my life,” continued Liscano. “To sing with...and for...our Team, our City, our Country, and our Sport of Hockey...to be even a humble part of something so great and far-reaching...it's an amazing gift I have been blessed with and honoured to have. Thank you Flames and Flames fans everywhere.”
Liscano will make her farewell performance on Wednesday, October 8th as the Flames launch the 2014-15 NHL season with their home opener versus the Vancouver Canucks.
The Flames will announce their new anthem singer in the ensuing days.
