The Calg ary Flames and the Flames Foundation for Life are proud to announce the creation of a new scholarship program in the name of Flames co-owner Harley N. Hotchkiss. The Harley Hotchkiss Scholarships will be offered to post-secondary students who are members of the men’s and women’s hockey teams at Calgary schools.
“I am honored to provide my name and support to this scholarship program and to so many deserving student athletes from Calgary’s post secondary institutions,” said Hotchkiss. “These young amateur athletes deserve recognition and reward for their contributions and we are thrilled to provide them acknowledgement through this initiative.”
The University of Calgary, SAIT Polytechnic and Mount Royal College will each receive three $1,000 scholarships each year for the next 10 years. The successful students will be well rounded individuals excelling in both the classroom and the hockey arena while demonstrating leadership to their respective team.
The launch of the scholarship program will take place during a pre-game ceremony tonight as the Flames host the Minnesota Wild at the Pengrowth Saddledome. Representatives from all three schools will join Mr. Hotchkiss at center ice for the announcement and a ceremonial puck drop.
