by Torie Peterson / Calgary Flames

CALGARY, AB -- The Saskatoon Blades opened the scoring in the first game of the Memorial Cup tournament but fell 3-2 to the London Knights on Friday.

2013 NHL Draft prospect Nikita Zadorov scored the game-winner in the third period, jumping on a loose puck and shoveling it past Blades netminder Andrey Makarov. Brett Welychka and Seth Griffith also scored for the Knights.

Calgary Flames prospect Michael Ferland assisted on Josh Nicholls' opening tally at 7:59 mark of the first period when his wrap-around attempt went through the crease and landed on his linemate's stick. He also assisted on Nicholls' second period equalizer, setting up the winger with a long stretch pass that set him off on a breakaway. Ferland finished the night with a plus-two rating.

The Blades next game goes Sunday at 5:00 PM MT when they face the QMJHL Champions, the Halifax Mooseheads.
