Calgary Flames announce 2011-12 regular season schedule

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Flames announced today their 2011-12 regular season schedule. Calgary starts off the '11-‘12 campaign at home when the Flames host Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday, October 8th. The Flames open their road schedule on Monday, October 10th as they travel to St. Louis to face the Blues.

The Flames' will not play their annual New Year's Eve home game as Calgary is hosting the IIHF World Junior Championships  and instead will ring in the New Year with a game in Nashville on January 1st. The Christmas schedule includes home games against Columbus (December 1st), Carolina (December 6th), Colorado (December 8th), Edmonton (December 10th), Minnesota (December 20th) and Detroit (December 22nd).

Calgary’s longest home stand this season starts October 18 through November 1 when they host Edmonton, New York Rangers, Nashville, Colorado, St. Louis and Vancouver. The Flames longest road trip is a seven game trek from December 23 until January 5 with the Flames travelling to Vancouver, Columbus, New York Islanders, Ottawa, Nashville, Washington and concluding against the defending Stanley Cup champions in Boston.

The Flames will travel to face the two original six Canadian teams on their first road trip as they make stops in Montreal (October 13th) and Toronto (October 15th).

Calgary will host nine Eastern Conference opponents, highlighted by games against Pittsburgh (October 8th), New York Rangers (October 20th), Ottawa (November 15th), Carolina (December 6th), New Jersey (January 10th), Toronto (February 14th) Philadelphia (February 25th), Montreal (March 6th) and the first ever visit by Winnipeg (March 9th). Hockey Day in Canada is February 11th with the Flames hosting the Vancouver Canucks.

The day-by-day breakdown is as follows: Monday (5), Tuesday (19), Wednesday (4), Thursday (18), Friday (13), Saturday (15) and Sunday (8). Other schedule notables include playing back-to-back 10 times as well as 16 home stints and 15 road trips.

The NHL All-Star Weekend hosted by the Senators will run January 26-30th in Ottawa.

The Flames finish with a home game against Anaheim on Saturday, April 7th which is the final day of the NHL regular season schedule.

Under the NHL scheduling matrix, each team plays six games against each team in its division (24 games), four games against the non-division teams within its conference (40 games) plus 18 non-conference games – including at least one game against each club in the other conference (15 games) and three other games against select teams.

All Flames home and away games will be carried live on the FAN 960 radio. The complete television schedule will be released in August.
