2014 NHL Draft order update

by Torie Peterson / Calgary Flames

CALGARY, AB -- With the Conference Finals finished, the 2014 NHL Draft order is almost set.

The first 13 selections were determined at the 2014 NHL Draft Lottery, held back on Apr. 15. The Calgary Flames will select fourth overall in June, the highest selection the team has ever held.

Among teams that made the Stanley Cup Playoffs, non-division winners eliminated in the first two rounds were placed in inverse order of regular season points, followed by division winners in inverse order of regular season points.

The final two spots will be finalized after the Stanley Cup Final. The loser in the Stanley Cup Final will pick 28th while the Cup champion will hold the 29th position.

NOTES: The New Jersey Devils were awarded the 30th pick as relief from an earlier penalty for circumventing the salary cap when they signed Ilya Kovalchuk in 2010 ... The Anaheim Ducks and Tampa Bay Lightning each hold multiple first round picks as the result of trades. The Ducks have their own pick, 24th overall, and the Ottawa Senators pick, 10th overall, due to the Bobby Ryan deal. The Lightning hold their own pick, 19th, and the New York Rangers first rounder, which has yet to be determined, as a result of the Martin St. Louis trade ... The Buffalo Sabres, who hold the second overall pick, could acquire two more first round picks. The Islanders have until June 1st to decide whether they want to give Buffalo their 2014 or 2015 first rounder as a result of the Thomas Vanek deal. The Sabres could also secure the St. Louis Blues first round pick if the Blues trade goaltender Ryan Miller's rights prior to St. Louis making their pick in Philadelphia.
