For the first time, the NHL in partnership with The Assist and Dunkin', are bringing sensory kits to the 2022 Discover NHL Winter Classic®.
The Assist was created in 2021 by two fellow hockey wives, Paige Dowd and Kodette LaBarbera, who strived to make hockey more accessible to all fans. Their combined personal background and educational background of autism and sensory needs made a great match. The sensory kit created is designed for the stimuli put off by hockey games specifically. The kit is full of items to reduce stimuli such as: Minnesota made 3M Your Ears Rock headphones and sunglasses, as well as items to help with self-regulation such as fidget toys, squishy pucks and coloring activities. Inside is also a social story containing the outline of a hockey game so they can be aware of what is to come and a special gift provided by Dunkin'!
To pick-up a sensory kit on gameday, please visit one of the guest services locations inside Target Field. They are located near Section 113 or Section 204.
