POSTGAME QUOTES 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs Western Conference Final Game 7 Chicago wins series 4-3
Anaheim 3 vs. Chicago 5 May 30, 2015 Honda Center
Ryan Getzlaf On what can be taken from this loss We had to take advantage of opportunities going into Game 6. We weren’t really mentally prepared to play the game, I don’t think. Tonight, they started stronger than us and they came out and scored two quick goals. Their power play was effective. They took advantage of it. They played better than us tonight, and played good enough to win.
Cam Fowler On the emotions It’s something that’s hard to put into words. I feel like you pour your heart and soul into this. We worked all season to have Game 7 in our building, and it’s a pretty empty feeling right now. I feel like we let the fans down and let the people around us down. It’s not a fun feeling right now. That’s the best I can explain.
Patrick Maroon On what transpired in the game I don’t know. They got the first goal and it kind of deflated us. We came out really [strong] and I thought we pushed hard in the first 10 minutes, and then they scored, and scored another one on the power play. We couldn’t find it after that. We played good in the last five minutes of the second period and we tried to push, but we didn’t get what we needed. At the end of the day, we needed a better result. We needed to be better.
On last two postseasons Last year was tough, but this is even worse. We were one game away. We had them on the ropes and we were going 3-2 in their barn. You saw what happened there. We were looking better because we think we have home-ice advantage in front of our fans. Honestly, I have no words.
Head Coach Bruce Boudreau On how the series unfolded I don’t know if we went in the other direction, but I do believe the Blackhawks got better. They came out and got two goals. They’re a tough team to catch up from.
On looking forward We have four months. I’m sure they’ll move on. It’s going to hurt for a while. We truly believed we were a different team and we had a really good chance of winning five more games. It didn’t get done. We’ll have to live with that for the summer. The same reason these guys are great guys who came to play each and every night will be the same reason why they’ll bounce back.
On the difficulty of making the Stanley Cup Final I gained an appreciation this year for making it to where we did, with how tough every series is. You hear about it on TV, but until you really see how many hurdles you have to go through, it’s really difficult. I thought we had a good chance to get to the dance, but we obviously didn’t make it.
Jonathan Toews On the team Whether we had a good start or we got ourselves in a tough spot, there’s always that confidence in our group that someone’s going to step up and we’re going to find a way to make it a game and give us a chance.
On the game We got ourselves to a seventh game and we always say anything can happen. Tonight we came out flying as a team. We had good contributions offensively across the board but I’d say it was our best game of the series, continuing with that pressure knowing that they were going to respond as well.
Corey Crawford On the game I thought everyone played well. That’s what we needed for a win. We were able to get a pretty good lead there, which is pretty key, especially the way this series is going. They fought back within two and another big goal from [Brent Seabrook] on the power play. It was a great effort by everyone. Everyone’s pretty happy in this room right now.
On playing well in elimination games Just preparing the same way. It’s just trying to be solid, make the first save but I think everyone battled together. That third period was pretty great. I don’t think they had too many shots. We were able to keep it to the outside. Patrick Sharp On the start It was a heck of a first period. It was pretty fast out there, back and forth. And to have two by the captain early on to kind of calm things down was big for us. Even when they scored the second goal there, 4-2, we tightened things up. It was a good game for all 60 minutes.
On experience in Game 7s Whether it’s Game 7 or Game 1, I think experience is an important factor this time of year. This group has been together for a few playoff series over the years, so we’re comfortable in big games and we showed it tonight.
Head Coach Joel Quenneville On the game Today’s game is a great accomplishment, especially when teams are excited about playing you. That’s just a testament to consistency and the way they prepare. I commend the guys that have been through it.
On Jonathan Toews He’s an amazing person. He’s an amazing hockey player. The bigger the stage, the bigger the setup, he just seems to excel in big moments, big stages. Shows he’s as good a leader as there is in any sport.
