On the second period
I just didn’t think we executed well. We didn’t do some things we talked about in the room. They were playing fast and made us turn back and get pucks. I thought we had a good last five minutes of the second period where we started using our legs more. We created more turnovers and chances.

On the game
We just didn’t put the puck in the net. Both teams had their chances. I feel bad for Gibby [John Gibson]. I thought he played an outstanding game tonight. It’s unfortunate we didn’t get the win for him. You have to appreciate what he does between the pipes, Freddie [Andersen], as well. I thought he deserved better.

Head Coach Bruce Boudreau
On the Rangers
They’re a good team. They’re very good defending. I think it was just a seesaw kind of game. They’re very defensive minded in the first and third period, especially, but in the second period we took our foot off the gas a little bit, and they took the game to us in the first 10 minutes. It was a good hockey game. We just hate to lose it.

On New York’s game-winning goal

We can talk about it going off of Hampus [Lindholm] and onto their stick, but we had them stopped at the blueline. It’s a 3-on-3. You can’t allow that to happen. We didn’t play it right, so it probably deserved to go into the net.

On playing the Ducks
It’s a hard place to come play. We knew it was going to be a big challenge for us. The Ducks have been playing really good lately. We have been struggling a bit in our own game. Everyone was playing defense well today and when you defend good you’re going to get those chances. Kevin Klein was really big for us. He scored two goals and it’s always great to see the defense score. This is a huge win for the team and a great way to start this road trip.

On the Rangers defense
They did a great job like they have been the whole season. First period there might be eight shots I didn’t see, but our defense was blocking the shots and taking the rebounds. In the third period when they pulled the goalie, it was our defense and our forwards who were making blocks and pushing guys away so I could see the puck and try to make the save.

Kevin Klein
On the Rangers play
In the second and third we played with more speed. We were making plays and trying to get in on the fore-check a little more. It was nice to see.

On the importance of the win

It is when you look at the teams coming from behind us. There are a lot of teams winning and its becoming a tight race. We’ve got a tough two games left on this road trip and we’ve got to come with that same intensity and same energy.

Head Coach Alain Vigneault

On the game
It was a really competitive game. Two teams battling real hard. You had to work for every inch. I thought in the second and the third we got better as far as creating better opportunities and we were able to score a goal in the second and a goal off the rush in the third that ended up being the game winner.

On Kevin Klein bouncing back after his giveaway in the first period
Klein stuck with it and got us two big goals, but for me, it was a team game tonight. I thought one of our better defensive games of the year. We didn't give their top end players a lot of looks and it was because of our compete level and our defensive structure.
