Sami Vatanen

On the speed of the Rangers
We knew before the game that they would come pretty hard. Their first couple shifts were pretty good, but they scored on a couple of our mistakes.

Ilya Bryzgalov
On his performance
I battled hard tonight. Compared to my last game in Ottawa, it was much better.

On turnovers
It’s bad luck. We were down by a goal and we tried to get it back, but it all went by so quickly. Their forwards put some good pressure on us, which forced turnovers.

Francois Beauchemin
On turnovers
That was pretty much the story of the game. Our execution wasn’t really high. That’s one thing that has to be better.

On tonight’s game
We didn’t get those second- and third opportunities in front of the net. We need to do a better job at that. We need a guy in the crease and one in the high slot to get those rebounds, tips and tough goals.

Head Coach Bruce Boudreau
On tonight’s game
We had some bad turnovers, no doubt. We gave them two goals and they scored the empty netter. They’re a really good team that deserved to win. They played better than us. When we had chances, we didn’t bury them.

On the Rangers
They’re really good. Their speed and structure of their game is really good. They’re going to be a tough team to beat.

Rick Nash
On the game
I thought it was a great game. Even in the second period we had a few turnovers and gave them a lot of momentum. I still think it’s one of those games where we could be a bit better.

On beating the best team in the NHL
It’s huge. We talked about it for the last couple days. We had three days off and we’ve been talking about challenging ourselves and kind of giving ourselves a measuring stick of where we’re at. It’s a huge win for us.

Henrik Lundqvist
On the game
For the most part, we played pretty much the way we talked about. We knew what to expect. They’re a physical team. They have a lot of guys that come to front of the net. It was tough to see the puck at times. Again, we played with a lot of poise and confidence, making a lot of smart moves. We showed a lot of patience. This game was a tight game. We can’t force anything, and when we got big opportunities, we cashed in. The way we responded, too, after their goal, it’s impressive to see. We really stepped up and that third goal was really big in this game. It just killed their momentum.

On tonight’s win
I think it’s good for our confidence to know that we can play a strong game against the best teams in the league.

Head Coach Alain Vigneault
On the game
It was a very competitive game by two teams that battled real hard. We were able to make them pay for a few of their mistakes. We saw some solid goaltending from both sides, we battled hard and were able to come out on top.

On the team’s style of hockey
We want to win. Whatever we have to do in different games, you have to find ways to win. Obviously they were ready tonight, and obviously we were ready. We came out, I thought, moving the puck really well, getting some good looks. We’re going to turn the page on this one and focus on tomorrow night.
