2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs Second Round Game 3
Kings lead 2-1
Anaheim 3 vs. Los Angeles 1
May 8, 2014
On tonight’s win
It plants a seed of doubt. That was our goal tonight. We wanted to come out with a 60-minute effort which we absolutely did. We played a smart game tonight. That’s what we need to do against a real solid team like the Kings.
On his third period goal
That was the first [fist] pump of my life. That was a pretty special goal for me. It’s not necessarily my job, but it was fun.
The team’s never-say-die mentality
We have a lot of character in this room, and a lot of depth. We knew it was our biggest game of the year. We couldn’t afford to lose this one. We had to come out and play a strong game. I thought our whole team stepped up and played well.
On the mindset heading into Game 4
It’s going to be another tough one. The games are getting tougher and tougher. You have to ramp your game up, be ready to play and be ready to pay the price.
Head coach Bruce Boudreau
On Selanne’s power-play goal
It was a rush that was a broken play. I thought Nick Bonino made a really great pass, but the reason Teemu Selanne has almost 700 goals is because he goes to the net and stops. That’s why the puck went in.
On tweaking the lineup
I thought Sami Vatanen was great. I thought he was the best player on the ice for both teams tonight. That change was good. I thought Frederik Andersen was good. I can’t call it minor changes after the game when those two guys have those kinds of games. I thought Kyle Palmieri had some good chances and gave some life to the other line.
LOS ANGELES KINGS
On tonight's game
We made some turnovers that cost us. We were pretty sloppy in the neutral zone and turned pucks over and getting rushes the other way, that’s something we didn’t do the first two games, so we have to clean that up. We have to be hard on pucks, make strong plays and get pucks deep.
On tonight's game
The Ducks played harder than us tonight, they executed better. They were a desperate team and they showed up. We know what it’s like to be in that position, and if the other team is more desperate than we are, they are probably going to have more success. It’s difficult to battle from behind, they got the early power-play goal and it seemed like we were trying to play catch up. We probably didn’t execute on many of our passes especially in the second period there, and give them credit they played good defensively and kept us to the outside and we didn’t get too many quality chances.
Head coach Darryl Sutter
On home ice not being a factor
It is not that it does not come into play, tonight was a pretty well-played game. We could have won tonight, we could have won last game.
On his team's performance
I thought we played really well, I’m sure they are going to say that too. The difference in the game was a turnover when it was 1-1, and you have a penalty kill.
