Patrick Maroon
On the challenges against Pittsburgh
We turned pucks over and didn’t play our game. We didn’t use our size, but they used their speed. The East is fast. They blew right past us. They had a couple of breaks, but we had a couple of mental mistakes.

On his offensive production

My linemates are playing really well. It’s fun playing with Perry and Rakell. They’re elite players in this league. Without them, I wouldn’t have the success I’m having. I have to continue doing that.

On the message heading into tomorrow’s game in Philadelphia
We go there tomorrow, get a win and forget about what happened tonight. We just have to focus on what we need to do tomorrow, and that’s playing hard. We made mental mistakes tonight. We need to be awake. We’re ready for tomorrow.

Head Coach Bruce Boudreau
On the game
We weren’t very good. We didn’t come to play from the drop of the puck. You can sit there and go up and down the lineup, but you can’t blame just one or two guys. It was 20 guys. It was by far our worst game in the past 25-30 games. It’s not a good way to start a road trip, but if we’re the team and people I think we are, tomorrow they’ll come back and play much better.

On Gibson’s performance
He’s a pretty level-headed young man. Two deflections in the first period and two breakaways in the third period. We’re not protecting him. We let them get behind us, but we knew what they were doing. Sidney Crosby gets two breakaways, and there’s a good chance he gets two goals.

On playing tomorrow night in Philadelphia
I’m glad we’re playing tomorrow. We’ll see what we’re made of, even though I know they’ll be ready for us.
