In a re-match of last year’s ADHSHL championship contest, JSerra looks to defend its title against Santa Margarita after besting the Eagles by a score of 3-2 in last year’s final. Santa Margarita was led by junior Tatu Hiltunen in 2012-13 scoring, who picked up 11-9=20 points in 13 regular season contests. The championship contest will also feature JSerra freshman Chase DiBari, whose 14-11=25 points in 14 regular season contests led the entire Varsity 1A division. The two clubs advanced to the Varsity 1A final on Tuesday, Mar. 5 when JSerra defeated Servite by a score of 5-2 and Santa Margarita bested Orange Lutheran with a 7-2 final score.
Santa Margarita won the California Amateur Hockey Association High School State Championship for the second year in a row Sunday in San Jose. The Eagles rolled to a 7-1 victory in the final over JSerra.
Santa Margarita will travel to Coral Springs, Fla., for the National Championship Tournament on March 20-24.
The Varsity 2A contest will begin at 6 p.m., featuring 2012-13 ADHSHL newcomer Corona del Mar vs. Edison (joined in 2011-12). Corona del Mar is led by senior Tyler Maloney, whose 22-12=34 points rank second among all Varsity teams Divisions 1A & 2A). Edison enters Thursday’s contest sitting atop the Varsity 2A division, posting an 8-6-0 record (21 points) in 2012-13. JSerra led the Junior Varsity division in 2012-13, going 11-1-0 in 12 regular season games. Los Alamitos will make their first appearance in the Junior Varsity championship match, which begins at 4:15 p.m.
The Ducks launched the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League on July 1, 2008 with JSerra Catholic High School (San Juan Capistrano; Junior Varsity & Varsity squads) as its charter member. Santa Margarita Catholic High (Santa Margarita; JV & Varsity) was added in 2009 and joined by Servite High (Anaheim), Damien High (La Verne) and Lutheran High School of Orange County (Orange) in 2010-11. In the last two years, the ADHSHL grown to 14 teams with the inclusion of Bishop Amat/Upland Christian Academy, Edison High School (Huntington Beach), Long Beach Prep, Corona del Mar High School, Huntington Beach High School, Los Alamitos High School and Corona-Norco. As the league continues to grow, the Anaheim Ducks will continue to provide financial support for each team involved in the program.
