Fourth Annual Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League All-Star Game Set For Thursday

The Ducks will host the fourth annual Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League (ADHSHL) All-Star Game presented by Hockey Giant this Thursday, Jan. 29 at Honda Center beginning at 5:30 p.m. Featured players from the 41-team league will compete in both the Junior Varsity (5:30 p.m.) and Varsity (7:30 p.m.) All-Star Games. All 41 teams involved in the league will be represented by a player.

A total of 78 players will compete in both the Junior Varsity (36 players) and Varsity (42 players) games this Thursday. The first intermission of both games will feature a fastest skater competition between the participating athletes and the second intermission of each game will feature a shootout between the participants. Admission and parking to the ADHSHL All-Star Game is free and fans can enter Honda Center through the North doors beginning at 3:30 p.m. Last year’s event drew nearly 2,500 fans.

In addition, the ADHSHL All-Star Game will serve as the site for competition between the four finalists of the second annual Anaheim Ducks Battle of the Bands event. Bands comprised of students from any school enrolled in the ADHSHL were encouraged to submit their best song (MP3 file) via The four finalists featured at the All-Star Game will be evaluated by a panel of judges. The grand-prize winner will receive $500, a Custom Les Paul Guitar, a feature on and much more.

The Ducks launched the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League on July 1, 2008 with JSerra Catholic High School (San Juan Capistrano) as its charter member. Santa Margarita Catholic High (Santa Margarita) was added in 2009 and joined by Servite High (Anaheim), Damien High (La Verne) and Lutheran High School of Orange County (Orange) in 2010-11. From 2011-13 (two seasons), the ADHSHL swelled to 12 schools and 14 teams with the inclusion of Bishop Amat/Upland Christian Academy, Edison (Huntington Beach), Long Beach Prep, Corona del Mar, Huntington Beach, Los Alamitos and Corona-Norco. The league doubled in size last season, jumping up to 28 teams from 19 different California schools. The schools that were added were Bellarmine College Prep (San Jose, CA), the San Diego Unified (student-athletes participating from the entire district), Villa Park High School, Woodbridge High School (Irvine) and Capistrano Unified (student-athletes participating from entire district).

This season the ADHSHL added 13 new teams and increased to five divisions, including the newly-created Western Prep Hockey League which features three California schools and teams hailing from Phoenix, Arizona, Colorado Springs, Colorado and Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The ADHSHL’s top division, Varsity 1, grew by two teams with the additions of Damien High School and Edison High School (from Varsity 2). The JV division, which sported 13 teams last season, has grown to 21 over Division A (15) and Division B (6). New teams include Brophy College Prep (Phoenix), Cathedral Catholic (Hamilton), Fountain Valley (Colorado Springs) in the Western Prep Hockey League; Conejo Valley (Southeastern Ventura County/Northwestern Los Angeles County), Upland Christian Academy in Varsity Division 2; Beckman (Irvine), Cal Desert (Palm Springs), Capistrano United, St. John Bosco (Bellflower) and Torrance Unified in Junior Varsity Division A; and Los Alamitos High School, Torrance Unified and Villa Park High School in Junior Varsity Division B.
