The Ducks announced on Thursday that they have recalled defensemen Brett Festerling and Brendan Mikkelson from the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League (AHL), right wing Dan Sexton from Manitoba (AHL) and goaltender Timo Pielmeier from Bakersfield (ECHL).
Festerling, 23 (3/3/86), has appeared in 30 games for the Ducks this season, earning 0-3=3 points with six penalty minutes (PIM). He recorded his first point of the season (assist) with a +2 rating on Jan. 5 vs. Detroit. Recalled from Toronto on Dec. 2 and reassigned on Feb. 15, Festerling has appeared in 28 AHL contests with the Marlies and the San Antonio Rampage this season, scoring 0-5=5 points with 27 PIM and a +2 rating. The 6-1, 210-pound defenseman appeared in 40 NHL contests for Anaheim in 2008-09, notching 0-5=5 points with 18 PIM and a +5 rating. In 70 career NHL games, Festerling has collected 0-8=8 points with 24 PIM and a +5 rating.
Mikkelson, 22 (6/22/87), has appeared in 22 contests for Anaheim in 2009-10, recording 0-2=2 points with eight PIM. He collected his first assist of the season and registered a career-high +3 rating on Oct. 14 vs. Minnesota and logged a season-high 19:27 TOI on Nov. 19 vs. TB. The 6-3, 205-pound blueliner was originally recalled from Toronto (AHL) on Oct. 11 and was reassigned on Dec. 2. In 40 games this season with the Marlies, Mikkelson has earned 5-10=15 points with 37 PIM. He currently ranks second on the club in scoring among defensemen. In 56 career NHL games, the Regina, Saskatchewan native has scored 0-4=4 points with 25 PIM.
Sexton, 22 (4/29/87), has appeared in 28 games for the Ducks this season, collecting 9-9=18 points with 14 PIM. Recalled from Manitoba on Dec. 4, Sexton scored 6-5=11 points in the month of December for Anaheim, ranking second among league rookies in scoring and tied for second in goals. Sexton also posted a career-high three-game goal streak (4-3=7) from Dec. 8-12. He was reassigned to the Moose on Jan. 31. In 13 contests with Manitoba, the Apple Valley, MN native has earned 5-7=12 points with two PIM. He began the 2009-10 season with Bakersfield, scoring 13-13=26 points with a +8 rating and 14 PIM. He earned ECHL Player of the Week honors for Nov. 16-22, collecting 5-4=9 points in four contests. Sexton played 38 games with Bowling Green in 2008-09, notching 17-22=39 points. Among Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) leaders, Sexton ranked tied for fifth in scoring and fifth in goals.
Pielmeier, 20 (7/7/89), has played in 42 games for Bakersfield in his rookie season, posting a 20-16-5 record with a 3.09 goals-against average (GAA) and .886 save percentage (SV%). He currently co-leads the ECHL in wins and ranks fourth among all rookies in GAA. The 6-0, 197-pound netminder posted a season-high 34 saves in a 6-5 overtime loss at Las Vegas on Feb. 12. Pielmeier was named the ECHL’s Goaltender of the Month in November, going 6-1-0 with a 2.07 GAA and .925 SV% during that span. The Deggendorf, Germany native appeared in 93 QMJHL contests from 2007-09, posting a 52-37 record with a 2.80 GAA and .912 SV%.
