Ducks prospect Emerson Etem (first round pick, 29th overall in 2010 draft) scored his 59th and 60th goals of the season last night for Medicine Hat of the WHL (at Lethbridge).
A native of Long Beach, California, Etem is the first WHL player to score 60 goals in a season since 2000-2001, when the Swift Current Broncos’ Layne Ulmer scored 63 goals in 68 games. He is also the first player in the CHL (OHL/WHL/QMJHL) to score 60 goals since Brett MacLean had 61 in 2007-08 with Oshawa (OHL).
Etem currently has a career-high 60-45=105 points with a +29 rating in his 62 games this season. He leads the CHL in goals and shorthanded goals (10). His 10 shorthanded goals are the most in the WHL since the Calgary Hitmen’s Pavel Brendl scored 10 in 1998-99. Etem currently has a seven-game point streak (8-5=13, +8) and seven goals in the past four games (7-0=7).
