Ducks to Display Ground Zero American Flag this Sunday at Honda Center

by Staff Writer / Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks will participate in the “Road to Ground Zero” tour this Sunday, Jan. 2 when the club takes on the Chicago Blackhawks at Honda Center (5:05 p.m.). The Ground Zero American Flag will be presented for the national anthem prior to Sunday’s faceoff. In addition, the Ducks will celebrate Law Enforcement Night this Sunday with over 900 local police and firefighters and their families in attendance.

The Ground Zero American Flag will make one if its first stops in 2011 at Honda Center as part of the official “Road to Ground Zero” tour, leading up to the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. The tour begins on New Year’s Day at the Rose Bowl and the flag will continue on a cross-country journey back to Ground Zero in New York for ceremonies on Sept. 11, 2011. The Ground Zero Flag has been on a number of military deployments and was on site when President George W. Bush delivered his famous “Bullhorn Speech” just after the Sept. 11 attacks. Following the national anthem, the Ground Zero Flag will be available on the concourse for fans to view and touch during the game.

Sunday’s game also marks Law Enforcement Night at Honda Center, where men and women who serve local police and fire departments will be honored. Tickets were offered to law enforcement members and their families at a discounted rate. The Orange Police Department will present the colors for the color guard during the national anthem. Throughout the game, children of local law enforcement officers will participate in Zamboni rides and an on-ice activity during the first intermission. In addition, the Orange County Fire Authority Pipes and Drums will perform at The Hockey Spot from 3-5 p.m. in the Honda Center parking lot (north side of the building). Following the game, the Orange County Fire Department will square off against the Santa Ana Fire Department in a hockey scrimmage on the ice at Honda Center.

Tickets to Sunday’s contest vs. Chicago are still available and can be purchased online at, by phone with Ticketmaster at (714) 703-2545 or in person at the Honda Center box office. Every fan in attendance on Sunday will receive a free Anaheim Ducks hat courtesy of Time Warner Cable Sports.
