ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has reassigned RW Shawn Thornton to the Portland Pirates, Anaheim's primary affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Thornton, 29 (7/23/77), played in seven games with Anaheim, earning 0-2=2 points with 21 penalty minutes (PIM) and a +5 rating. He was recalled from Portland on Oct. 28 having appeared in seven games with the Pirates, earning 4-3=7 points and 20 PIM. At the time of his recall, he ranked tied for second on the club in goals and tied for third in points.
The 6-1, 209-pound forward has appeared in 38 career NHL games, earning 2-3=5 points with 91 PIM. A native of Oshawa, Ontario, Thornton was signed by the Ducks as a free agent on July 12, 2006. He was originally drafted by Toronto in the seventh round (190th overall) of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.
