The Ducks have reassigned center Rickard Rakell
to the Norfolk Admirals, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Rakell, 20 (5/5/93), appeared in 18 regular-season contests with Anaheim, scoring 0-4=4 points with two penalty minutes (PIM). He also appeared in three postseason games, recording 1-1=2 points. He scored his first NHL goal in Game 5 of the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs First Round Series on Apr. 25 vs. Dallas, becoming the first Duck to record his first career goal in the playoffs. The 6-1, 192-pound center appeared in 46 regular-season games for Norfolk, collecting 14-23=37 points with a +7 rating and 12 PIM. Rakell finished fourth on the Admirals in points, tied for second in assists and led in plus/minus. He also ranked second in power-play goals (8) and tied for fourth in goals.
Selected in the first round (30th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Rakell made his NHL debut on Jan. 19, 2013 at Vancouver. He was the sixth youngest player to appear in a game for the Ducks at 19 years, eight months and 14 days. Rakell played four games with Anaheim in 2012-13, going scoreless. Rakell spent the rest of 2012-13 with Plymouth of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), collecting 21-23=44 points with a +19 rating and 12 PIM in 40 games.
